Let's see, let's start with the not so good...as in, nighttime sleep. Ever since Wyatt and Hattie were about four months old, nighttime sleep has been nightmarish. They were great sleepers for awhile. And now not so much. They've both been getting up twice a night for quite some time. And the first wake up has been getting earlier and earlier. It's now around 11pm. Just in the past week, we've started letting Hattie cry through the middle of the night feeding (3am-5am...not that she cries that long. She wakes up sometime in that time frame). Wyatt still gets two bottles in the night, because he's so small (more on that later).
Napping...we are trying to get this figured out. Some days are good. Some days are more of a challenge. Some days they sleep at the same time. Some days they just don't. They aren't particularly long nappers. Sad face for mom. In fact, some days they'll only cat nap for 20 minutes or so during their first morning nap. Usually, this results in a longer nap later in the day but not always. We've found that Wyatt naps better if we put him in his swaddle sack that we use at night. Most of the time. Not as I'm typing this. :(
They're both still on Nutramigen. We are hoping to try regular formula for Hattie soon and see if she can tolerate it. And if that goes well, we'll try with Wyatt too. It would be amazing if we could be done with the liquid gold. As far as solids go, we plan to use the Baby-Led Weaning approach. In this system for introducing solids, you skip purees and let them feed themselves from the beginning. In theory, at least, this seems like a much easier approach with twins. We've put both avocado and banana in front of them so far but nothing has quite made it to their mouths yet.
They are so fun right now (when they're not grumpy from getting shots). They smile so easily. They love playing with their toys and get so excited when you offer a new one. They adore the cats. And, thankfully, the cats tolerate them. They got a jumper and an exersaucer for Christmas and are both starting to enjoy time in those. Wyatt giggles easily and often. Hattie chuckles every once in while. So adorable!
Stats for Miss Hattie - At six months old, she weighs 15lb3oz which is the 30th percentile for weight. She's 26 inches long, 56th percentile for height and her head circumference is 45cm, the 97th percentile. Oh yeah. Our babies have big heads. She wears mostly six month size clothes.
She presently shows no interest in rolling over, but she's not too far from being able to sit up. And, she got two teeth this month. On the same day.
Then, there's our little shrimp, Wyatt. At six months, he weighs 13lbs9oz (the 1st percentile for weight), is also 26 inches long, 30th percentile for height. And has a head circumference of a whopping 46 3/4 cm, also in the 97th percentile.
He rolls easily from front to back, making tummy time very difficult. One time he rolled the other way. Must have been a fluke. And he's not nearly as sturdy as his sister. I can't imagine him sitting up anytime soon. Poor little guy is seriously top heavy. He wears a lot of 3 month clothes and a few 6 month.
I've always heard people say that the days are long when you have little ones, and often the days are long. I'm so thankful that Phil comes home very nearly everyday for lunch. Even if the babies both sleep the whole time, he will wash bottles, let me take a shower, or just offer a little adult conversation. I certainly never realized just how much downtime I used to have. I sometimes miss my reading time.
But the days are also flying by. I just can't believe these two have already been here for half a year. And I can't imagine how quickly their first birthday will be here.
